Color the hard way
Earlier this year I purchased a dream camera; the Leica M Monochrom. And, yes, I did correctly spell the name. Weird spelling is how you know it’s quirky and different. I’ve been playing around with different lenses for a bit and have settled on a 40mm Voigtlander Nokton Classic. Not sure if using a non-Leica lens on this camera makes me more or less pretentious. I’m gonna go with more.
The pretentious meter is getting ready to go off the charts with what I am going to say next - all of the images in this posting were taken with the Monochrom camera and non were colorized using an AI techniques.
So how did I do it? I used a technique from the 1800’s; the trichromatic process. Each image is three images taken using filters combined in Photoshop. I have been doing with film images for a bit and wanted to try it out with the new camera.
I like the outcome this process gives because the colors are just not quite 100%. That eeriness plays into what I want my photography to be, I fell that photography can convey a sense of remembrance that isn’t necessarily accurate to what happened. I try to achieve that feeling by how I print - using metallic mediums (paper or actual metal) or platinum printing. This process gives me a way to make these off-center images without printing.
Hope you dig it and if you do please consider sharing with your friends.
